Algae Chilli Trial, 2023

Frank Mason (Genesis Algae Innovation), conducted the following Chilli trial in pure river sand at Kelsey Road Bowen using alive micro green algae (Chlorella Vulgaris).

2 half IBC pods were filled with river sand in February 2024. They were planted with 9 chilli seedlings each from the same seed stock. The plants were germinated in soil then planted at approximately 40mm tall. Both IBC pods were pre-watered and mulched with grass hay, planted then after 24 hours lightly fertilised with a complete fertigation fertilise, Thrive to assist in establishment.

A week later, the treatment pod was fertilised with AlgaeFert at equivalent to 6 L of concentrated AlgaeFert per hectare and watered. Both pods have been watered twice weekly and the Treatment fertilised with AlgaeFert at the same rate every fortnight.

It is clear from the photos attached that the AlgaeFert treatment plants have grown significantly better above ground hence the root mass below would match this increase above ground. The control pod plants have not grown though are green suggesting the algae Endophyte roll in enhancing root growth which has been published based inUSA research.

Suggested future work could investigate using AlgaeFert in other crops in particular horticultural crops.
